Chapter 1. The inception.

Summer 2020. A lockdown, and the very start of my journey.

I feel like a lot of people have extremely negative memories of lockdown. When people talk about 2020, it’s followed by comments of how frustrating it was, how boring, how much we missed out on. But for me it was a huge turning point in my life and a time of self-reflection, discovery of identity, and growth. It definitely made me into the person I am today. Literally! I developed the extra terrestrial, celestial character of Azul Kechi, through writing my debut single self-titled ‘Azul’. 

I was born Celeste, and relying on the fact that my name is fairly unusual, I thought I would never need a different stage name. I was set on being Celeste. Early that year came the breakthrough of singer Celeste, leaving me thinking. But the best ideas come when you least expect them to. I was admiring my crystal collection one day in summer, and Azul walked straight into my head. My favourite crystal, Lapis Lazuli, etymologically translated into Azul, is a bright blue stone associated with strength, loyalty and wisdom.It is the throat chakra, and when this is blocked, you may struggle to feel heard or you may find it hard to communicate. This stone is said to unblock this and ease the way you can freely express yourself. For me, expression and communication has always been music.

Each song tells a different story. These first singles, into my debut album, express the emotions and events that shaped me into who I am. Ever growing, ever evolving, ever learning, this is me, Azul Kechi, introducing you into my world.
